Founded in 2012 by a group of young creatives, Movies in Wonderland is a touring pop-up film festival about architecture and urbanism, in public spaces, vacant spaces, and established institutions. Admission to all our open-air screenings and online programs is free, in order to cater to a broad audience on subjects of the built environment and our daily lives within these structures.

Movies in Wonderland presents and discusses films internationally, with collaborations from Vienna to Maputo to Hong Kong. We also produce short films and documentaries and have established a global network of creatives and audiences.

Architektur.Film.Sommer is Movies in Wonderland´s annual showcase of architecture related films in collaboration with Vienna´s Architecture Center Az W  and the cultural hub MuseumsQuartier Wien. Founded in 2013, it invites film and architecture buffs to drop in, hang out, watch and chat in the great outdoors. The focus in 2025 is on: Suburbia. From the American Dream to Peak Oil.

Moz Monday Movies in Mozambique, is one of Movies in Wonderland’s most successful international collaborations with Shortcutz Maputo, curating short film screenings and promoting up-and-coming filmmakers from Mozambique and neighboring countries. The Infinite Frames  Student Film Festival in cooperation with HKU´s Faculty of Architecture showcases new talent in the fields of architecture and space related film. In collaboration with Mies. Magazin, Movies in Wonderland has produced award-winning films, such as „Beyond Eternity, Architecture Facing Impermanence“ on the Sharjah Triennial by Arian Lehner or the Blickpunkte portrait series for the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024. 

Regional_Express  is another Movies in Wonderland production for Salzkammergut 2024, a multimedia experience on the train line from Gmunden to Bad Aussee and in Cine-VR, with a special commission for the composition Echoes of Salt by Radio Ö1 . A project by Ella Raidel, Petra Ardai, and Marlene Rutzendorfer. 

The Movies in Wonderland dialogues allow for in-depth discussions with architects and planners, moderated by the next generation of professionals in various fields. The dialogue format was born out of the COVID 19 lockdowns, similarly to the #online #architecture #film #festival, which celebrated its third edition in February 2025.
