The Cost Action Rural NEET Youth Network is proud to announce the publication of a new open-access book titled “NEETs in European rural areas: Individual features, support systems, and policy measures”.
Co-edited by Francisco Simões and Emre Erdogan, this book delves into the complex challenges faced by young people Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEET) in rural Europe, offering a comprehensive analysis and proposing innovative solutions.
Rural NEETs, despite being a significant segment of the youth population, often remain invisible in policy discussions. This book aims to change that by shedding light on the unique circumstances and needs of rural NEETs. It covers a wide range of topics, including the individual features of rural NEETs, the quality of informal social networks, the role of formal and non-formal education, the efficacy of employment services, and the impact of territorial disparities.
The book takes a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together scholars from various fields to provide a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by rural NEETs. It also offers valuable insights for policymakers, informing them about the importance of tailored policy measures to support vulnerable young people in rural areas.
“This book represents a significant step forward in our understanding of rural NEETs,” says Francisco Simões, one of the editors. “By systematically covering this subgroup of NEETs and offering a new model of analysis, we hope to inspire further research and inform policy design in areas such as education, employment, and social welfare.”
“NEETs in European rural areas” is available for free online. It is a valuable resource for scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in addressing the challenges faced by rural NEETs and promoting their social inclusion.
