Decolonizing Architecture
Deadline Submission: 28.02.2022
For the 10th edition of the international open air architecture film festival in the courtyard of the Architekturzentrum Wien in August 2022, we are looking for documentaries, short films and animations on Decolonizing Architecture — Historical Entanglements and Contested Spaces in Architecture.
To what extent was architecture an accomplice of the exertion of colonial power for centuries, and what was the resulting spatial and social impact? Where can current colonial practices and mechanisms be observed? Which materials and cycles are required to decolonise architecture and the building sector? And, what about institutions like museums or universities? In short: Does architecture require a decolonial turn?
We invite filmmakers from all over the world to submit documentaries, short films and animations on the subject, to show critical perspectives of historical and contemporary developments. The festival presents topical themes from the realms of architecture and urbanism, and provides an opportunity for exchange and conversation in an outdoor setting.
