Earth without Land — what will we build on tomorrow?
Deadline Submission: 28. February 2021
This is an open call for documentaries, short films, experimental films and animations on the topic of land and land use in rural as well as urban settings, for the ninth open air architecture film festival in the Architekturzentrum Wien courtyard, scheduled for August 2021.
The progressive sealing over of the soil is leading to the extinction of species, a scarcity of fertile soil, flooding and erosion. So a forward-looking policy is needed to take due care of the land and the soil — as much for humans as for animals and the natural surroundings. What could such a policy look like? How can ecosystems be maintained? How do we deal with empty buildings? Where and to what extent are resources, such as water, soil, sand and woodland, consumed annually for the built environment? Who bears the brunt of the immediate consequences today, and who will bear the longer-term consequences tomorrow?
We invite filmmakers everywhere to submit documentaries, short and animated films on the topic, to present innovative projects and approaches and to question historical as well as current developments from a critical perspective. The festival presents current topics in the field of architecture and urbanism while providing an opportunity for discussion and exchange in an open air setting.
