about “From the parking lot to living space”

The trip “From the parking lot to living space” is a workshop and at the same time a bicycle tour. We look at places in Vienna that are examples of the car occupying public space: Parking Places. The current dominant life model is based on the disproportionate use of the car as a means of transport. Even if to a lesser extent than other cities, Vienna is not exempt from this.

In “From the parking lot to living space” the participants get to high quality (semi-)public spaces in Vienna, which, however, are exclusively used as parking spaces. Together we want to imagine how these spaces could be used differently and collect these ideas in the documentation.

The tour will last about two hours and be 11 kilometres long. The places to visit are in the heart of Vienna, the 1st district along the Ringstrasse, the inner districts 9 and 8 and the 18th district. We will finish at Zollergasse, where various possibilities will be demonstrated how street spaces can be used other than for parking.

The tour will be in German and the registration is compulsory (please register here  and click “HIER ANMELDEN” button).

The participants of the tour are responsible for their own travel and adhere to the road traffic regulations on their own responsibility.

The tour is open to all interested parties in order to discuss the topic with both experts and citizens and to jointly develop new visions for Vienna’s public spaces.

We will end the trip at the #kommraus action in Zollergasse.

Die Ausfahrt “Vom Parkplatz zum Lebensraum” ist ein Workshop und gleichzeitig eine Fahrradtour. Wir sehen uns Orte an, die in Wien Beispiele für die Besetzung des öffentlichen Raumes durch das Auto sind: Parkplätze.Das aktuelle dominante Lebensmodell basiert auf der unverhältnismäßigen Nutzung des Autos als Fortbewegungsmittel. Auch wenn in geringerem Maße als andere Städte, ist Wien davon nicht ausgenommen.

Bei “Vom Parkplatz zum Lebensraum” gelangen die TeilnehmerInnen zu hoch qualitativen (halb-)öffentlichen Räumen in Wien, die jedoch exklusiv als Parkplätze verwendet werden. Gemeinsam wollen wir uns vorstellen, wie diese Räume anders genutzt werden könnten und sammeln diese Ideen in einer Dokumentation.

Die Tour wird etwa zwei Stunden dauern und 11 Kilometer lang sein. Die zu besuchenden Orte liegen Herzen Wiens, dem 1. Bezirk entlang der Ringstraße, den Innenbezirken 9 und 8 sowie im 18. Bezirk. Zum Abschluss kehren wir in der Zollergasse ein, wo verschiedene Möglichkeiten demonstriert werden, wie Straßenräume anders als für einen Parkplatz genutzt werden können.

Die TeilnehmerInnen der Tour sind selbstverantwortlich unterwegs und halten auf ihre eigene Verantwortung die Straßenverkehrsordnung ein.

Die Tour steht allen Interessierten offen, um das Thema sowohl mit FachexpertInnen als auch mit BürgerInnen zu diskutieren und gemeinsam neue Visionen für die öffentlichen Räume Wiens zu entwickeln.
