Together with GB* Stadtteilmanagement Nordbahnviertel/Nordwestbahnhof and Radio Orange, Movies in Wonderland was invited to co-develop an Audio Experience around Nordwestbahnhof and give an introductory talk to the workshop participants. The project is presented as part of the Urbanist*innen Café on September 17, 2026 / 4 PM at Stadtraum Nordwestbahnhof.

The Nordwestbahnhof Sound Walk invites you on a journey of discovery. Listen to how a former train station is being transformed into a new Viennese neighborhood for living, working, shopping, and relaxation, as well as for education, sports, and culture.
Each stop is a piece of the puzzle in a vast, exciting process—right on your doorstep in the 20th district. Grab your headphones, put on your shoes, and join us on a walk through the Nordwestbahnhof—from yesterday to the day after tomorrow.

1. Introduction: Nordwestbahnhof in Transition (Stops 1–5)
An introduction to the significance of Nordwestbahnhof for Brigittenau and the transformation of the former station grounds into a new neighborhood.
2. Looking Back: A Journey Through Time on Old Tracks (Stations 6–10)
The history of Nordwestbahnhof, its importance for freight transport, and personal memories of a place that used to look very different.
3. In-Between: Before the New Neighborhood Takes Shape (Stations 11–14)
The Long Transition: How the former freight yard is gradually becoming a new neighborhood, and what role temporary uses play in this process.
4. City Life: Green Spaces, Energy, and Everyday Life (Stops 15–19)
A look at what will make the future neighborhood a great place to live: green spaces and open areas, education, recreation, sustainable energy, and everyday amenities.
5. Arriving: Paths to the Future (Stations 20–25)
How the new neighborhood will be better connected through short distances, bike and walking routes, and public transportation—and why children’s perspectives also play a role in this.

The audio recordings for this audio walk were made by 16-year-old students.
After an introduction to the Nordwestbahnhof urban development area, the young people developed their own interview questions and met with experts in urban planning, transportation, history, culture, and district politics at STADTRAUM Nordwestbahnhof.
The students also conducted the interviews with the experts themselves; these were then edited by the GB*Team and compiled into this walking tour.
