How can spatial design of houses, squares, streets and parks make the city inhabitable for humans, plants and animals alike? That question is central to an exhibition that presents the results of groundbreaking research that was conducted in the spring of 2015 by an international team of students and young professionals. On show are inspiring examples of ‘nature–inclusive‘ building – often taken from abroad, as some foreign countries lie markedly ahead of the Netherlands in this particular field. Also, provocative design proposals for the Cruquius area are shown. This industrial park in Amsterdam East is on the verge of a transformation process in which enhancement of biodiversity is high on the agenda. The project Ecoexistence / Building for Biodiversity is a co-production of landscape architect Maike van Stiphout, architect Mathias Lehner and Arcam.
