More on this event

On March 3–4, 2026, Accelerating Inclusive Innovation from Theory to Institutional Practice will take place at the Fraunhofer-Forum Berlin. The two-day event, hosted by INSPIRE, the European Centre of Excellence on Inclusive Gender Equality in Research and Innovation, together with Fair Mobility, focuses on embedding gender, intersectionality, equity, and social justice into research and innovation (R&I).

The event explores how gender mainstreaming, equity, and justice can move beyond formal compliance at the proposal stage to become meaningful drivers of research excellence and societal impact. Participants will engage with evidence-based frameworks, hands-on workshops, and collaborative exercises designed to strengthen inclusive planning and policy approaches.

Day 1 opens with a welcome by Mónica Angulo followed by a roundtable discussion on translating concepts such as gender mainstreaming, equity, and justice into concrete R&I practices. The afternoon features networking moments, a workshop on intersectional urban innovation, and collaborative working groups focused on building sustainable Communities of Practice.
Day 2 continues with a workshop, where participants work on a fictional mobility planning scenario, followed by sessions on improving quality and equality in R&I and further exchange among project partners.

Dr. Mary Dellenbaugh-Losse, director of the Berlin-based planning office urban.policy and visiting professor at the University of Kassel, leads two workshops on intersectional urban innovation and mobility, drawing on her research, her book Gendergerechte Stadtentwicklung, and recent applied work such as the mobility audit for the City of Hamburg. Dr. Rachel Palmén, Senior Researcher at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and coordinator of INSPIRE, the European Centre of Excellence on Inclusive Gender Equality in Research and Innovation, contributes to sessions on improving quality and equality in R&I, sharing evidence-based insights on how institutions and projects can move beyond formal compliance towards meaningful, intersectional change in research and innovation practice.
