Promoting Fair and Sustainable Transport Solutions

As part of the ongoing commitment to creating inclusive and sustainable mobility options, the town of Ebensee is being a part of European Mobility Week at the end of September 2024. This initiative aims to highlight the importance of accessible and environmentally friendly transportation.

Mobility Week so far:

Mobility Week has already seen a range of activities designed to engage the local community and promote sustainable transport. In previous years the Cyclists’ Breakfast provided refreshments such as rolls, apples, and coffee to encourage cycling as a daily mode of transport. Children participated in a bicycle obstacle course and other play stations, including skill challenges, street painting, and a slackline, to introduce them to safe cycling and physical activity in urban spaces.

A bicycle repair workshop has been a key feature, offering hands-on support to cyclists to ensure their bikes remain in top condition. Over the years, partners such as the Traunsee-Almtal Holiday Region have contributed, promoting options like the Salzkammergut Shuttle, while Focus Mensch, formerly the Civil Disabled Association, has emphasized the importance of inclusive transport options. Community Nurses have also been involved, supporting efforts to ensure that mobility solutions address the needs of all residents, particularly the elderly and those with disabilities.

Upcoming Events - Program 2024

Looking ahead, several key events are planned for the second half of September 2024. A bicycle workshop will be held at the Youth Center on the 17th, 19th, and 20th of September, offering further opportunities for the community to engage with cycling experts and improve their skills. This workshop will be led by Raimund Höller and Rudi Stüger.

On Friday, 20th September, seniors will be offered ticket machine training at the local train station and Landungsplatz, coordinated with the Seniors’ and Pensioners’ Associations. This initiative will ensure that older residents are comfortable using public transport systems, improving their mobility and independence. The session will include a broader introduction to the local transport infrastructure and will be supported by memory training groups.

Another event planned is the “Stroller Walk” organized by a local mother-child group. This walk will allow parents to document barriers, dangerous spots, and other issues that affect mobility with strollers. By highlighting these obstacles, the initiative aims to create safer and more accessible pathways for young families in Ebensee.

The week will conclude with a major event at the Weekly Market on Saturday, 21st September. This will feature play stations for children, presentations, and test rides of cargo bikes and bike trailers. Coffee and cake will be available, creating an inviting atmosphere for casual conversations. Local experts and participants will be interviewed about their experiences and ideas for improving mobility in the region. An exhibition of photos and drawings from local after-school care children will showcase their vision of a more accessible and inclusive Ebensee.

Building Towards FairMobility:

Through its involvement in Mobility Week, Wonderland is contributing to the FairMobility project, which seeks to develop fair and inclusive mobility strategies for all residents. By working alongside the Frauenforum Salzkammergut and other local organizations, the goal is to ensure that future transport projects consider the diverse needs of the community, including those who may be underrepresented in traditional transport planning.

The activities and events of Mobility Week reflect the broader goals of the FairMobility project:

to create transport systems that are not only environmentally sustainable but also accessible to all, regardless of age, ability, or social background.
