We face Covid in Peace and Harmony – Campaign with MUVA Mozambique

Posted on: 15th September 2020

wonderland – platform for european architecture with its format movies in wonderland has teamed up with MUVA – Female Economic Empowerment in Mozambique, co-producing a video and media campaign for mutual support in households and neighborhoods in times of COVID-19.

As we are dealing with COVID, and families are encouraged to stay home, there is an increased burden of work that women have to take, with almost all households being carried by women. And, unfortunately, there is also an increase in the number of domestic violence cases, specially with women as victims.

To address this, MUVA, wonderland, and partners joined to create an initiative to create awareness and try to prevent this type of situations to flourish.

Created by a group of partner initiatives and institutions, including Mozambique Ministries of Health and of Gender, this campaign has three main objectives:

Promote dialog instead of violence;

Encourage division of household jobs;

Encourage parents to keep children studying.

The video and poster campaign is accompanied by a series of discussions in various media. wonderland – platform for european architecture hosted a discussion on the impact of COVID-19 in urban neighborhoods and MUVA´s work in Maputo, Mozambique, with Carlos Osvaldo / MUVA and Libânia Uamusse / Male Ya Pepha, as well as Bahanur Nasya / Eutropian on the impact of COVID-19 on cities and on finding ways of alternative financing of small scale projects and small businesses.

In addition to that, MUVA and wonderland launched a social media challenge, in which people from all walks of life are invited to show how they deal with COVID in their families.

MUVA is a social incubator focused on developing innovative approaches to women’s economic empowerment. Recognizing the persistent barriers that limit access to decent work, we bring innovative projects that help girls prepare for the world of work, creating the confidence and vision they need to look for a job and find alternative work solutions linked to their skills and aspirations.
